This is an early prototype. I want to know where it loses you.

You drive the U-9, a drilling rig, straight down. There is no dig button: it chews whatever it is facing, and harder rock takes longer. Soil goes fast, basalt makes you wait. All of it burns the same battery you need for the climb back out.

Get to the surface under your own power and VETA S.A. pays a bonus on top of your haul. Run the battery flat and they tow you out for free, but the run is over there and then.

Up top you spend the haul on the workshop tree. Then Hondura fills in every tunnel you dug, except the seals you paid to open.

This build stops at 300 m, two of the six strata. No creature yet, no ending, and most of the tree is still locked. I can get to the cut in about 20 minutes, but I built the thing and I know where to dig. However long it takes you, please don't feel you have to get there at all. Stop when it stops being interesting and tell me when that was. That is what this build is for.

Controls

  • WASD or the arrow keys to drive. Push into the rock and it drills.
  • Mouse to aim. Click to knock parasites off the hull.
  • Mouse wheel looks down the shaft. Space snaps back to the rig. F takes you to the deepest point you have reached.
  • ESC for pause and options.
  • Abilities and modules run automatically once you buy them in the tree.

Use the fullscreen button. Inside the page frame the mouse wheel scrolls itch instead of the game.

What I want to know

  1. When did you stop playing, and why? I would rather have the blunt version.
  2. Did you buy anything in the tree? Was it worth it?
  3. Did you ever go one more run? When?
  4. Anything you could not work out on your own.

Comments here are fine, and short ones are fine too.

Made in Godot. Every pixel is geometry drawn in code and every sound is synthesis, so there are no external assets and no generative image or audio models anywhere in it. The code and a lot of the in-game text were written with AI assistance.

ESTRATOS v0.3.11-proto · 9 runs · 17 min · 299 m · 6.8K

Was a pretty nice experience, but the energy replenishers are extremely powerful. Once I reached 100 m, I basically could keep going almost infinitely only on these powerups.

Thanks, that’s exactly the kind of detail I was hoping for. It’s the first piece of feedback I’ve received on this, so it’s especially valuable to me.

I’ve taken note of everything and added it to the list. I’ll review the energy-restoring blocks to make sure they don’t make things too easy.

Thanks for taking the time to write this.
